Sybreed was formed in 2003 by vocalist Benjamin and guitarist Drop; they had previously worked together in a band called Rain. In 2004, Sybreed released their debut album, Slave Design. Most of the tour promoting this album was conducted in Europe, with some dates scheduled in the United States. In early 2006, drummer Alex left the band due to creative and personal issues. During a brief hiatus, Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork and Scarve agreed to do session drums while Sybreed recorded its next album. After production was completed, Kevin Choiral was confirmed as the band's new permanent drummer. On July 7, 2007, it was announced that the band had signed a deal with Listenable Records for a European release of their new album Antares in October of that year. The album was released on August 15, 2008 in the United States, but included a bonus track, "Plasmaterial". On June 29, 2009, Sybreed's official website announced that the band's bassistt, Burn, would part company with the band. Although it was originally stated on the website that Burn would still participate in their US tour beginning July 17, 2009, he did not make the trip to the US. Instead they enlisted bass player Hector Gonzalez, a member of the Los Angeles, California, thrash band Flatline as a temporary bassist to complete the United States tour.
